Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a
Humuhumunukunukuapua‘a or Reef Triggerfish is the designated State Fish of Hawai‘i. “Humuhumu” for short, the first part of the name refers to blocks of color on the fish’s side. The second part “nuku-nuku apua‘a” means “snout like a pig’s.” Similar to pigs, Humuhumu root through sand and coral foraging for food.
